Published in The Laconia Daily Sun: Once an Outlaw at Moultonborough Academy

One of my concert photos was featured in The Laconia Daily Sun, and this one means a lot to me because of the story behind it.

On October 23, the auditorium at Moultonborough Academy hosted a benefit concert for Interlakes Community Caregivers, a volunteer-run nonprofit that provides free rides to adults in the Lakes Region who can't drive themselves, whether due to age or disability. More than 120 people showed up, and the night raised over $5,000 to support that mission.

I was there covering the event, and my shot of the headliner, Southern rock band Once an Outlaw, ran alongside the Sun's coverage of the fundraiser on November 12.

The Show

The evening opened with Nashville Revue, a New Hampshire group playing classic country hits spanning the 1920s through the 1970s. Then Once an Outlaw took the stage and brought serious energy. The band is stacked with musicians whose resumes include time with The Outlaws, the Marshall Tucker Band, and stages shared with acts like Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Allman Brothers. It's not every day a band with that pedigree plays a stage in Moultonborough.

Shooting the Event

Live music in a school auditorium is its own challenge. Mixed stage lighting, fast-moving performers, and a packed house mean you have to work quickly and anticipate moments rather than wait for them. The shot the Sun ran captures the full band mid-performance under the stage lights, guitars up front and percussion driving from the back.

Why It Matters

Interlakes Community Caregivers has been serving Center Harbor, Sandwich, Meredith, and Moultonborough since 1998, running entirely on volunteers and community support. Getting to document a night where the community showed up for them, and then seeing that image help tell the story in the local paper, is exactly the kind of work I want Max Cohen Media to be part of.
