Harmony of Hearts

My friend Michael, a filmmaker with a strong eye for storytelling, invited me to photograph the production of Harmony of Hearts. I joined the crew for one busy weekend, moving between locations across New York and documenting the work happening around the camera.

Set photography is about more than recording the scenes being filmed. It is also a chance to preserve the concentration before a take, the adjustments between setups, and the collaboration that keeps a production moving.

On Set

A film set changes constantly. Light shifts, people move into place, and quiet preparation gives way to a few focused moments in front of the camera. I worked around that rhythm, staying close enough to capture the process without interrupting it.

The strongest photographs came from watching what was happening just beyond the main action. Crew members checking a frame, performers waiting for the next setup, and the surrounding locations all became part of the story.

Across the Weekend

Working across several locations gave each part of the production a different visual character. The pace stayed quick, but the still photographs created space to notice details that pass by in the finished film.

Together, these images form a record of the weekend: not only what appeared in front of the lens, but the people and decisions that brought Harmony of Hearts together.
