My First Semester Experience

The course Intro to Photography was undoubtedly one of the highlights of my semester. I knew I was going to like this class from the very first day. I loved getting to know my classmates as we worked on projects and gave feedback. Our professor was fantastic. I ended up being extremely proud of the photos I had taken and the progress I had made over the course of the class, and even decided I'd take a self-portrait class with the same professor during winter break! I had discovered a lot more about photography than I had ever imagined.

One class that was interesting was Film Aesthetics and Analysis. It was a tough course that required a lot of critical thinking and analysis. We had to watch old films and write objectively about them, connecting them to film movements and exploring their themes and techniques. With only three assignments in the class, the pressure was on! And while many movies were, well, obscure, I was still able to improve my ability to "read" movies.

I participated in a student comedy production called "After Hours" for ICTV. It was great to use my imagination and collaborate with other students who shared my enthusiasm for humor and entertainment. I had the opportunity to develop jokes, game concepts, and even absurd interview questions as a member of the writing staff. Working with everyone and watching our ideas come to life was a blast.

Thinking about my future time at Ithaca, I'm excited about all the opportunities, even with all their own challenges. I know that there have been and will be moments when I feel overwhelmed, but I'm also confident in my abilities and I'm sure I'm up for the task!
